006 Water Treatment 2 Sept 13-16, 2021 - Hampton Inn, Fbks, AK

$750.00

This class is the new ADEC-approved intermediate class for water treatment system operators developed by Mike Pollen of NTL Alaska, Inc. for the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC). This course replaces the Alaskan Water Treatment Systems Intermediate class and is accredited for 3.0 core continuing education units (CEU). The text for this course is the new American Water Works Association (AWWA) Water Treatment Grade 2 manual that was the primary source document used by the Association of Boards of Certification (ABC) to develop the 2017 Water Treatment Level 2 national water treatment certification exams that are now being used in Alaska by ADEC.

Topics include microbiology and chemistry, operator math, USEPA regulations, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, chlorine disinfection, iron and manganese treatment, fluoridation, lime softening, ion exchange, activated carbon adsorption, aeration, membrane treatment, corrosion treatment, water quality testing, centrifugal pumps, instrumentation and control systems, treatment plant safety, and administrative procedures including record keeping and reporting. The course features examples of Alaskan water treatment technology for both surface and groundwater systems. Attendees who have previously passed the ABC Level 1 Water Treatment Exam will be able to take the ABC Level 2 Water Treatment exam upon completion of the course.

Prerequisite: High School Diploma or GED. Completion of the Introduction to Water Treatment, Grade 1 course is strongly recommended prior to taking the intermediate course. If the attendee passes the ABC Level 2 Water Treatment exam and has 3 years of applicable operating experience they may apply to ADEC for a Level 2 Water Treatment Certificate. Separate ADEC certificate application fees will apply.
